NORTHWOOD, Iowa — Two women and a child survived a plunge into a water-filled ditch on Wednesday in Worth County, thanks to the work of Northwood and Mason City fire departments, and their water rescue personnel.

The driver of the vehicle was Georgina Tippetts, 27, of Waverly, according to Lt. Dan Schaefer of the Iowa State Patrol. Names of an older woman, thought to be Tippetts’ mother, and Tippetts’ 3-year-old daughter, were not released.

One of the women was reported to have been nine months pregnant. Northwood Assistant Fire Chief Mitch Hanson said his department was called at 8:16 p.m. to the scene just south of the Diamond Jo Worth Casino on Interstate 35.
