La. fire department rescue dog recieves national title

SHREVEPORT, La. — The dog days of summer weren’t so bad for Ranger the yellow Lab.

The 8-year-old Shreveport Fire Department canine recently was named the American Kennel Club’s 2007 service dog of the year.

“I can’t say he doesn’t deserve it,” said Ranger’s trainer and owner, Capt. Kerry Foster. And that’s why he nominated “his baby,” whose coat is a few shades lighter than Lucille Ball’s red locks.
