LAS VEGAS — North Las Vegas firefighters who rescued three children hit in a crosswalk are helping their families recover stolen donation money.
Last week, a donation jar meant to help with the medical expenses from the accident was taken from a gas station, according to KTNV. When they learned what happened, the firefighters donated $1,000 to the families.
“After what we saw at that accident site, we wanted to reach out to the families, let them know that we’re here for them " said North Las Vegas Firefighter Christopher Candito.
Firefighter Candito was one of the first responders at the scene when Alyssa Mowery, her sister Rain Mowery and Mia Decker were hit by an elderly driver in a crosswalk, the article said. Mia died from her injuries, and Rain is recovering well. Alyssa is on a ventilator in a medically induced coma.
“It was horrible,” Candito said of the scene. “It was one of those things you’ll remember until the day you die.”
Jennifer Hall, Alyssa’s aunt, says community support gives the families hope.
“It means a lot,” Hall said. “It just shows the huge community support we’ve received. They just rallied around us.”
