PARADISE, Calif. — A Paradise woman was in Enloe Medical Center in Chico Monday recovering from injuries she suffered late Friday afternoon after being attacked by three pit bulls.
She was saved by her neighbors, including an off-duty firefighter.
According to Annette Marcus, her partner Sarah Paige was picking up her garbage at their Lucky John Road home when the three dogs attacked her.
Paige was dragged to the ground by the dogs, which inflicted numerous wounds to her face, chin and arm. While the dogs were attacking her, she cried for help and neighbors came running to her aid.
“We want to thank our heroic neighbors who literally saved her life,” Marcus said. “One was Joe, a firefighter, and three or four people, I don’t have all of their names, but what these people did was incredibly brave. They talked her through horrific moments.”
Those who came to her aid reportedly got in between the dogs and the injured Paige, who was transported to Enloe.
Paradise police officer Eric Reinbold said on Monday the dogs were quarantined on Friday, but said the case is still under investigation and he couldn’t talk too much about the case.
But he did thank those who intervened.
“They fended them off of her and we express our gratitude to them,” he said. “It’s pretty tough to ward off three dogs by yourself.”
Reinbold said he is unaware if the dogs in question had any previous incidents on record but “I am sure that will come out in the investigation.”
While police deal with dog bites regularly, Reinbold said this is an exception.
Marcus, who was with Paige on Monday, said her injured partner just wants “people want to treat their animals well and not be breeding any animal who can hurt people.”
