PORTLAND, Ore. — Three off-duty Portland firefighters who were at the station when a call came in for a man in the Willamette River are now heros.
According to KGW, the station’s engine was responding to another emergency call. Being so close to the river, the off-duty firefighters deployed the rescue boat, with one of the firefighters swimming to the man in distress.
The victim was rescued in less than 10 minutes.
“We’re just glad we were still at the station and could lend a hand,” Portland Fire and Rescue Lt. Allan Burns told KGW. “All the responders worked as a team and we were able to achieve a positive outcome.”
