LOS ANGELES — A firefighter helping to put out a blaze in Pico Rivera was hurt after he was hit by a hose that was run over by a train Sunday night, April 20, authorities said.

A fire broke out in a yard at Rivera Road and Cord Avenue with Los Angeles County firefighters responding at about 10:15 p.m.

“A train went across our hose, indirectly injuring a firefighter,” said Fred Fielding, a department spokesman.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Leobardo Trujillo said the hose struck the firefighter.

Details on what exactly occurred hadn’t been disclosed.

The firefighter was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries, Fielding said, adding he didn’t know the firefighter’s condition and if the firefighter was still in the hospital on Monday.

The fire was knocked down at 10:54 p.m., Fielding said.
