ANTIOCH, Calif. — A firefighter and paramedic who were responding to a medical emergency in Antioch were injured in a drive-by shooting Saturday night, authorities said.

Officials released few details but told The Chronicle that Contra Costa County fire personnel responded to a medical incident in the area of Auto Center Drive and Sycamore Drive in Antioch at around 9 p.m.

“While units were on scene — fire was on scene with EMS — a drive-by shooting occurred,” Joe Ottolini, fire prevention captain with Con Fire, told The Chronicle.

A firefighter with the Contra Costa County Fire Department was shot in the foot, and a paramedic was shot in the leg, Ottolini said.

Both first responders were taken to local hospitals, where they received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. They were in stable condition Saturday night, Ottolini said.

Additional information about the shooting was not immediately available.

The Antioch Police Department is investigating, Ottolini said. Antioch police could not immediately be reached for comment.
