PITTSFIELD, Vt. — Firefighters are used to operating in extreme environments, but what about extreme sports?

Joe De Sena, the founder and CEO of the Spartan endurance sports brand, is offering firefighters a free registration to a Spartan Obstacle Course Race, Spartan Trail Event or Tough Mudder event in 2024. De Sena made the announcement on the Better Every Shift podcast, hosted by Fire Lt. Aaron Zamzow.

Zamzow highlighted De Sena’s vision to get 100 million people healthy, specifically “off the couch,” and urged the country’s 1 million firefighters to get involved as well.

“The 1 million firefighters have a free race on me,” De Sena responded. “I just want to help the world. I definitely want to help those that help the world. There is no society without uniform services, right? It just doesn’t work, so I’m happy to lean in and support.”
