GASTONIA, N.C. — More than 70,000 people in Gastonia got an early morning wake up call Saturday morning after a dispatcher accidentally alerted the wrong group to a two-alarm fire.
According to city officials, the Gastonia Fire Department was working two different fires around 4 a.m. Saturday morning. One was an apartment fire on Barkely Street in Gastonia, and the other was a structure fire located on Black Oak Drive in Gastonia.
“With the two fires happening together and the departments resources depleted, additional off duty resources were needed,” city officials said. That’s when dispatchers were called from one of the fires asking for Gastonia Fire Department personnel to be notified of the need for additional help.
