SAN RAMON, Calif. — The San Ramon Valley Fire District is among five agencies nominated for best government Web site by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.
The Webby Awards, as they are commonly known, will be given out May 4 in New York.
Web site administrators submit their sites for consideration, San Ramon fire spokeswoman Kim French said. This year the Academy received a total of 10,000 entries from the U.S. and more than 60 countries for various categories.
The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences is a 650-person academy whose members include Internet co-inventor Vinton Cerf.
The department’s site, firedepartment.org , was nominated Tuesday along with two sites belonging to NASA, the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Air Force.
Firedepartment.org was designed based on the results of a community survey that asked residents what they want to see from their fire department’s Web site.
It includes live dispatch logs and emergency radio traffic, photo and video galleries, a section for children and information for businesses and residents.
In the coming days, the department will also unveil an iPhone application the first fire district application created.
