WILMINGTON, Mass. — A highway collision between a Wilmington ambulance and a pickup truck Wednesday morning sent multiple firefighters and patients to the hospital, town officials said.

The crash on Interstate 93 left the front end of the pickup truck crumpled and the Wilmington Fire and Rescue ambulance with a twisted door and damage across its driver-side.

Photos of the crash posted to the fire department’s social media accounts showed the two vehicles entangled off the side of the highway.

“This is a stark reminder to slow down and proceed with caution around emergency vehicles responding with their lights on,” the department said.

The crash occurred on the southbound side of the highway near Massachusetts Route 125, according to WCVB.

A dispatcher said the fire chief would release further details on the crash later Wednesday.
