LOVING COUNTY, Texas — A volunteer firefighter with the city of Wink was killed in a crash Wednesday.
Colby Slaughter, 36, was en route to a tank battery fire around 5 p.m. with lights and sirens.
News West 9 reported a semi-water hauler attempting to pass traffic collided head-on with the fire truck.
Slaughter, a 10-year veteran, died at the scene, reported USFA.
According to officials, both the driver of the truck and a passenger in the fire apparatus were both taken to the hospital with severe injuries. The Texas Department of Public Safety is now leading an investigation.
