ROCHESTER, N.Y. — As early as kindergarten, Michael DaVia’s passions were art and firefighting.
“I’d color pictures of fire trucks and sell them for a nickel,” recalled DaVia, as he stood in front of his 8-by-20 feet firefighting themed permanent mural on the grounds of the Chili Fire Department. DaVia, who joined the Chili Fire Department when he was 18 and is a past battalion chief, was commissioned by the department to paint the permanent piece for the exterior of their Mask Confidence Training Building.
The mural is painted on moisture resistant fiberglass panels and mounted on pressure treated lumber and plywood that was secured to the building by DaVia and his fellow fighters Harold “Bud” Houk and Dave Saurin in early July 2015.
