Del. firefighters rescue teen from burning house

MAGNOLIA, Del. — Magnolia firefighters rescued a 17-year-old from a burning home early Thursday.

The fire was reported shortly after 7 a.m. June 23 in the first block of Orange Street in Paris Villa, Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael G. Chionchio said.

The Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company arrived to find smoke pouring from the one-story home, then were able to go inside and rescue the teen, he said.

The teen was taken to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital and admitted in critical condition, suffering from smoke inhalation.

Heavy fire damage is estimated at $25,000.

State fire marshals are continuing their investigation into the cause of the blaze, Chionchio said.
