PHIPPSBURG, Maine — A firefighter died May 23 after falling ill while preparing to leave a firehouse to work a fireworks display standby detail.
The U.S. Fire Administration reported that firefighter David Bourget, 59, with the Phippsburg (Maine) Fire Department, was leaving the station to work the detail with other crewmembers. He was going to drive a tanker truck, but only got to the station’s driveway when he suddenly fell ill.
He was treated by paramedics and transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The cause of his death is still pending.
Firefighter Bourget was a 40-year fire service veteran.
