PARKTON, N.C. — A volunteer firefighter died Sunday from what is being called a sudden illness following a call.

WRAL reported that David Brody, 41, with Parkton Fire and Rescue, died at a hospital after he had answered a call and became ill later at home.

Firefighter Brody had been with the department since October.

“David served the Parkton community with heart and soul. He was dedicated to his brothers and sisters of the fire department,” Lt. Richard Edge said. “We are truly saddened by the loss of a firefighter (whom) we considered family.”
