COLONIE, N.Y. — A NY volunteer firefighter has been charged with stealing gear and selling it to a pawnshop.
Firefighter James E. Turley, 39, was arrested Monday after a volunteer from Shaker Road-Loudonville Fire Department accused him of taking $3,644 worth of gear and selling it to a local pawnshop.
Police say a member of another fire department heard about the stolen items Jan. 16 from the pawnshop employees.
Seven helmets, a fire jacket, a pair of fire trousers, a pair of gloves, an air mask face piece, and a harness and rescue system were among the items stolen and sold, according to the Times-Union.
Firefighter Turley is now being held in jail and is due back in court Wednesday.
