Firefighter removes toilet seat stuck on UK toddler’s head

Firefighter said, ‘Lots of people have got stuff stuck on their body but never a toddler and a toilet seat’

MANCHESTER, U.K. — A toddler had to be cut free by firefighters after getting a toilet seat stuck on his head.

Two-year-old Joshua Cullen was playing with a potty training seat when he pulled it over his head.

Laughter quickly turned to panic when his mum Siouxsie Edwards, 26, was unable to remove it.

His grandad Mark Edwards was called to the house on Charlock Walk, Partington, and tried to loosen it using soap but had to resort to calling on the fire brigade for help.

He took the tot to Sale fire station where officers cut the seat free using industrial strength scissors.

Joshua then enjoyed his first moments of freedom, playing on the station’s fire engine.

Mark, 48, a youth worker, said: “Joshua had just got hold of the seat and put it on as a hat when he pulled it down.”

They were laughing about it then realised they couldn’t get it off.

“I tried everything to remove it and was going to cut it off using a saw but I didn’t want to risk hurting him and he was starting to panic.

I told him we would call Fireman Sam and he seemed to calm down. I took him to the station and four firefighters held the seat, one calmed him down and spoke to him, while another one cut it off.”

It was only plastic, but an awkward shape and close to his face.

“The fire brigade were just fantastic, really good with him and they calmed him down while it was removed. As soon as he got in the fire engine he seemed to forget about it.”

“Looking back it was funny, we have held onto the toilet seat to embarrass him when he is older. I think he will be more careful in the future and hopefully won’t do it again to see Fireman Sam.”

Watch commander Chris Bradshaw said: “In my 27 and a half years I have never seen anything like it before.

“Lots of people have got stuff stuck on their body but never a toddler and a toilet seat.”
