YAKIMA, Wash. — Some firefighters played cowboy today when it was reported that livestock were on the runway at the Yakima Air Terminal.

Just before 5 p.m., reports came in that 10 to 12 cows from a pasture next to the airport had forced their way through a gate and were grazing alongside the runway.

A crew from airport Station 94 paid the gatecrashers a cattle call, herding them via horn blasts and strategic sprays of water (the true medium of all firefighters).

It took all of about five minutes. No aircraft was ever in danger, a firefighter said, and the owner was fixing the gate.
