WAVERLY, Tenn. — A firefighter is missing after his vehicle plunged into water Monday, according to officials.

Tennessean reported that Nashville firefighter Jesse Reed has been missing since his vehicle plunged into the Tennessee River. A woman that was inside the vehicle escaped unharmed, but responders have been searching for Reed ever since.

Sheriff Chris Davis said that when deputies arrived, the vehicle was already submerged in the river and they were unable to locate it.

Crews later recovered Reed’s vehicle, but officials said he was not inside.

“It is entirely possible that Jesse was not in the vehicle and is currently a missing person,” Davis said. “He is part of the public safety family and having Nashville Fire and Cheatham EMS on scene has been beneficial.”
