OAK PARK, Calif. — A woman was able to thank the firefighter who saved her home from being destroyed after he was identified from footage taken from her home surveillance cameras.

Courtney McClain watched in real time using a smartphone application for her home surveillance cameras as a firefighter did everything he could to keep the flames from destroying her house.

“He is just my hero running in to save my house,” she told Inside Edition.

Desperate to find the man and thank him in person, McClain posted the surveillance video online, in hopes he could be identified.

The internet, as it usually does, did its magic, and identified the man as Capt. Jason May of the Redondo Beach Fire Department.

May said her gratitude is what gives the job meaning.

“You’re such a gracious and nice family,” he said during a conversation on FaceTime. “You make what we do and all the sacrifices that have been made, puts a real value on that to us.”
