HARDY CREEK, Mont. — The Novak fire burning in the Lewis and Clark National Forest between Hardy Creek and Craig made a strong run to the north toward Interstate 15 on Sunday, prompting one-lane traffic for a short distance in the area of the fire.
The closure, due to heavy smoke in the area, only lasted for a short time, said Allison Jackson, a spokeswoman from the Wally Bennett Type I Northern Rockies Interagency Incident Management Team.
The fire remained at 617 acres on Sunday, but dry conditions, high humidity and rough terrain made containment difficult, she said.
