LAS VEGAS — The National Nuclear Security Administration says one lightning-sparked wildfire is contained and firefighters are battling a second in the vast federal nuclear testing reservation formerly known as the Nevada Test Site.
Administration spokesman Dante Pistone said Friday that no structures are threatened, no radiation has been measured, and no injuries are reported.
Pistone says the two fires cover more than 9 square miles in a remote western part of the Nevada National Security Site north of Amargosa Valley and east of Beatty.
The largest fire is about 25 percent contained. It’s burning pinyon, sage and cheatgrass in rugged mountain terrain.
The other fire is 100 percent contained.
Pistone says three air tankers, a helicopter and 100 federal firefighters have been on the lines since Monday.
