DENTON, Texas — A firefighter was accused of ripping down flags at a courthouse that were placed to remember those who died in the 9/11 attacks.

WFAA reported that police used video footage and credit card receipts from several establishments to identify the suspect as firefighter Michael Wagemann, according to an arrest affidavit.

Wagemann was placed on desk duty by the Fort Worth Fire Department as an internal investigation is conducted.

Denton County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Orlando Hinojosa said an arrest warrant was issued for Wagemann after he failed to turn himself in, but his attorney posted bond.

“Being a public servant, you know, even if you’re drinking or upset with somebody, don’t mess with the flag,” Capt. Hinojosa said.
