NASHVILLE, Tenn. — This past Sunday, hundreds of first responders and citizens gathered across the country to remember those who died in the Sept. 11 attacks 15 years ago. While there were countless memorials and services held, one firefighter took to the gym to honor the fallen.
Firefighter Jason Harding showed up to a Planet Fitness gym Sunday in full gear, reported USA Today. He asked to use the stair climb machine to honor the first responders who lost their lives in the attacks.
“I am not one to get emotional, but a few tears were shed,” wrote Lezlie Bauler, the gym employee who spoke to Harding. Bauler also posted a photo of Harding on the machine, which has received more than 60,000 shares on Facebook.
Harding said in a statement that since he was unable to attend Nashville’s Annual Memorial Stair Climb, he wanted to complete the climb regardless.
“Many stated my act brought them to tears but little do they know, their support did the same for me,” Harding said. “I want to thank everyone that shared and commented in response to this post. It is proof that although we seem divided as a county at times, we unite at the most crucial times.”
