SEATTLE — First responders who saved a teen after the Amtrak derailment paid him a visit at the hospital.
KOMO News reported that Tumwater Fire Department paramedics Shawn Crimmins and Jim Floyd weren’t sure when if Timmy Brodigan was going to survive when they rushed him to the hospital after the derailment on Dec. 18.
The 16-year-old has been in the hospital ever since with a broken neck, fractured ribs and a bruised lung. He is mostly paralyzed, but his spirits are high after regaining movement in his arms.
Crimmins and Floyd were joined by Fire Chief Scott LaVielle when they visited Brodigan in the hospital to present him with a trophy, a Tumwater Fire gave him a hat and a shirt to cheer him up.
“We want you to come by and visit the fire station when you get back,” Chief LaVielle said.
Brodigan will soon be airlifted to a hospital in Denver that specializes in spinal cord injuries, and a GoFundMe has been created to help with medical expenses.
“It’s inspiring,” Chief LaVielle said. “His family has hope. We have hope. And we’re glad to be a part of it.”
