BOSTON — A woman has died in an early morning fire in a South End apartment building, Boston fire officials said.
The unidentified woman was found in a third-floor apartment after firefighters responded at 6:15 a.m. to the 20-unit building on East Canton Street, Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald said. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man and a child in the same apartment were able to escape and were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, MacDonald said.
The fire began in the bathroom and was confined to the apartment, MacDonald said.
Damage is estimated at $100,000. Boston fire, police and the Suffolk District Attorney’s office are investigating the cause of the fire.
The fatal fire is the third so far this year in Boston, already matching last year’s total.
