MARION, Ill. — Two grants accepted Monday night by the Marion City Commission will allow the Marion Fire Department to purchase needed equipment.
Chief Jerry Odum told the commission the department has received a $75,645 Harrison Bruce Foundation grant for the purchase of extrication equipment, including a pump and generator, and a light tower.
Odum said the equipment will be used on a new truck, which he was hoping the department could purchase in the next 90 days. Odum reported the department has a pair of trucks that are reaching 32 to 33 years old, although Mayor Robert Butler took issue with Odum’s request, indicating there is no money in the current budget for the purchase of a new truck. Treasurer Steve Hale indicated funds are available to purchase the truck.
