SOUTH BERWICK, Maine — A volunteer firefighter was injured Sunday afternoon after he lost control of his apparatus and crashed into a tree.
Firefighter Adam Leach, 31, was returning from a call when he is believed to have had a medical problem and swerved the tanker truck off the road and hit a large pine tree, according to the Portland Press Herald.
Firefighter Leach was not seriously hurt, tearing a finger tendon and getting bumps and bruises.
The apparatus is completely destroyed, but the 3,000 gallons of water it was holding did not rupture.
Firefighter Leach has been placed on unpaid sick leave. Firefighter Leach has 15 years on the department and is a professional truck driver.
