HOLLY RIDGE, N.C. — A Holly Ridge man has been accused of slashing the tires of a rescue medical responder vehicle, delaying officials as they tried to respond to an emergency call.
Connor Murray, 39, of Ridge Willow Road in Holly Ridge, was arrested Friday by Holly Ridge Police Department and charged with injury to personal property and property damage.
Murray is accused of slashing six tires on three different vehicles that night, one of which was a rescue medical responder unit, which were parked outside of the home of the chief of the Holly Ridge Volunteer and Rescue Department, according to a press release from Chief Brandon Longo, whose home it was.
“It’s very upsetting to know someone would do something like this, especially to a rescue medical responder vehicle. He actually delayed a response to a medical emergency,” Longo said Saturday evening.
Members of the community approached Longo after the incident and told him about other slashed tires in the community, he said.
A police officer with the Holly Ridge Police Department first noticed the disabled vehicles while on a routine patrol of the neighborhood.
“We are unsure what fueled this hateful act and urge homeowners to keep an eye out for each other and report any suspicious activity to the police. We want to thank the Holly Ridge Police Department for the professional and swift actions resulting in the arrest,” Longo said in a press release Saturday.
According to Longo, Murray has been released on bond.
