SC firefighter killed in MVA while responding to fire call

The firefighter’s pickup ran off the road and struck a tree

RIDGEVILLE, S.C. — A S.C. volunteer firefighter died Sunday afternoon from injuries he suffered in a motor vehicle crash while responding to a forest fire.

Dorchester Rural Fire Department Firefighter Michael Louis Broz, 58, was driving a 1977 Ford pickup when the vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree, according to WBTW.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol reports that Firefighter Broz was wearing a seatbelt and that he was the only person in the pickup.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The SCHP is investigating the crash.
