BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — An intoxicated man allegedly tried to steal a fire truck from a rescue crew while they were responding to a medical call.
Palm Beach Post reported that police arrested Eric Blaise after he climbed into the fire truck and tried to steal it. Blaise reportedly fled the scene when he couldn’t figure out how to put the truck into gear.
On their Facebook page, Broward County Sheriff’s Office said Blaise was discovered when “a Tamarac Fire Rescue Lieutenant heard the truck’s air brakes release and saw someone in the vehicle.”
Blaise ran away but was spotted because he was wearing a vest from the truck.
“Possibly feeling jubilant at having survived Hurricane Irma, Blaise let alcohol do his thinking last night,” the sheriff’s office said.
Blaise was charged with grand theft of emergency medical equipment and petit theft.
