Pa. volunteer firefighter charged with arson

The teen was accused of setting a series of fires spanning over several months

PENN HILLS, Pa. — A junior volunteer firefighter was arrested on charges of arson last week.

Officials said the 17-year-old has been tied to at least three fires.

The first suspected fire occurred in June, involving several couches burned on a curb. The second was a dumpster fire, and the third transpired at a business in July.

“I noticed we started to have a rash of dumpster, trash fires in a certain district,” Penn Hills Fire Marshal Chuck Miller told WPXI.

A volunteer fire station located down the road from where the fires took place led Miller’s investigation to the teen.

The identity and further details have not been released since the accused is a minor.

The incidents are still being investigated.
