Okla. firefighter assaulted while trying to enter burning home

A man repeatedly struck the firefighter with a flashlight to keep him from entering the building

TULSA, Okla. — Authorities arrested a man Monday night after he allegedly assaulted a firefighter with a flashlight while trying to enter a burning home.

Dale Wayne Parsons, 48, reportedly struck the firefighter down with the flashlight to prevent him from entering the home, reported Tulsa World. Drugs were said to be found inside the home.

Police responded to the scene and took Parsons into custody.

Tulsa Fire Capt. Stan May said the attacked firefighter was treated at the scene for head injuries.

Parsons faces charges of assault with a dangerous weapon after a felony conviction, interfering with a firefighter, possession of a controlled drug and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $26,000. Parsons was convicted of third-degree arson in 2010 and is on probation until 2017.

The fire remains under investigation.
