Ore. firefighter injured after calling mayday during fire

A firefighter was injured and taken to the hospital with minor burns after a backdraft threw him back 10 feet

OREGON CITY, Ore. — Firefighters had to call for help while putting out a fire at a commercial building Wednesday morning.

KPTV reported that a passer-by called 911 to report the fire in a shopping center just before 5 a.m.

Firefighters responding to the scene made a mayday call after a backdraft threw two crew members back about 10 feet, according to the report. One firefighter was injured and taken to the hospital with minor burns.

Firefighters had the flames under control by 6:45 a.m., according to the report.

Investigators have not yet determined what caused the fire.
