SAGINAW, Mich. — Among Saginaw’s firefighters, there is more than a little anxiety about the date July 1, 2015.
That Wednesday marks the beginning of the city’s new budget year, with a budget that proposes reducing the city’s firefighting force from 51 to 38, a cut that would close two of Saginaw’s four fire stations.
Firefighters say the impacts of the layoffs could include increased insurance rates for residents, bigger and more destructive fires and a more dangerous working environment for the remaining firefighters.
