NY firefighter suffers burns while battling blaze

Multiple fire departments responded to the fire, which police said started in a shed.

WEST BABYLON, N.Y. — One civilian and one firefighter were hospitalized with burns and another civilian was transported to a hospital with high blood pressure, following a fire early Sunday evening in West Babylon, Suffolk County fire officials said.

The identities of the three were not released.

Officials said one civilian was transported to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow with unspecified burns, while the second civilian and the firefighter were both transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip.

Officials said the injured firefighter, whose department affiliation was not released, suffered minor burns. Additional information about the three injured was not immediately available.

Police said the fire started in a shed outside a home on 10th Avenue and was reported at 6:50 p.m. The fire spread to the home.

Firefighters from West Babylon, North Babylon and West Islip responded, as did a crew from Wyandanch Ambulance.
