SAN FRANCISCO — A San Francisco firefighter was hospitalized Friday morning after suffering burns to his face while battling a fire that broke out at a home in the city’s Inner Richmond neighborhood, officials said.

The blaze was reported about 9 a.m. on the 3000 block of Fulton Street and quickly went to a second alarm as it ripped through a two-story home, said Lt. Jonathan Baxter, a spokesman for the San Francisco Fire Department. The fire was brought under control just before 10 a.m.

“We have one firefighter who suffered minor burns to his face and ears and was transported to San Francisco General Hospital,” Baxter said, adding that he’s expected to make a full recovery.

There were no other injuries reported. It is unknown how many people live in the home and if anyone will be displaced due to the extensive damage from the fire, Baxter said.

“It appears the fire was initially located in the basement,” Baxter said.

The inferno spread to a nearby shed and set of stairs, but it is unclear whether the stairs are part of the home, Baxter added.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
