TULSA, Okla. — Authorities say no one was hurt when a charter bus carrying students caught fire on an Oklahoma turnpike.
Parent Jason Vanhoozer tells Tulsa television station KOTV that all 33 people on the bus escaped safely. Vanhoozer says the students from Lawton’s Flower Mound School were headed to a national archery tournament in Louisville, Kentucky, when the fire broke out early Thursday on the Creek Turnpike in Wagoner County.
Two buses were traveling to the tournament. Firefighters say the driver of the second bus saw sparks coming from the back of the first bus and notified the other driver. That driver stopped the bus and helped everyone escape safely.
Officials say the fire destroyed all the luggage and archery equipment on the bus.
