LONG GROVE, Iowa — Colleagues are mourning the death of a former fire chief who lost his year-long battle with cancer.
Long Grove Volunteer Fire Chief Kevin Brix died over the weekend after battling stage four atypical carcinoid cancer. Chief Brix also served as an EMT for 18 years, reported KWQC.
“I know his laugh was just infectious and just a fun guy to be around,” Linda Frederiksen, a colleague of Chief Brix’s at Medic EMS, said. “Everybody here at Medic had a great relationship with Kevin, he’s really one of the true public safety heroes in Scott County.”
Colleagues at the fire department said Chief Brix acted as a father figure and mentor for many younger firefighters.
“He was quite an impact, there was a lot of people on the fire department over the years that I can think of that he put them in the right direction,” former Assistant Fire Chief Joel McCubbin said.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
