La. assistant fire chief dies from cancer

BATON ROUGE, La. — The East Side Fire Department announced via Facebook that Assistant Fire Chief Ernest “Peppy” Doughty died Monday after a long battle with cancer.

Doughty served the East Baton Rouge Parish and neighboring communities for over 40 years.

“A leader in the fire service and a friend to all that knew him,” the Baton Rouge Fire Department wrote on its Facebook page. “Peppy spent his life responding to citizen’s emergencies and educating fire personnel on the newest and safest tactics. Rest now Chief, we will take it from here.”
