CARL JUNCTION. Mo. — A longtime fire chief died Sunday after battling cancer.

Four States Homepage reported that retired Carl Junction Fire Chief William Dunn started his fire career in 1961 at the Carl Junction Fire Protection District and became fire chief in 1974.

In the 54 years that he served, he trained thousands of firefighters in Missouri. His wife, Ruby, said he would come home after battling a blaze with his crew and say “I’d put those guys against anybody.”
