ST. LOUIS — Colleagues are mourning the death of a retired veteran firefighter who died of colon cancer Sunday.
Marnell Griffin was diagnosed with colon cancer over three years ago; he served the St. Louis Fire Department for 22 years, reported KMOV.
“He has always been a fantastic firefighter, one of the guys willing to do anything anytime we asked him,” St. Louis Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson said.
Fellow firefighters surprised Griffin this past Christmas Eve by gifting him a department ax to thank him for his dedication and service.
A GoFundMe page was created earlier this month to help Griffin’s wife pay for living and medical expenses.
