POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- A child was taken to the hospital with carbon monoxide poisoning after a fire broke out in a city beauty parlor this morning, the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department said.
Firefighters responded to 691 Main St. after receiving a call from Saint Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie that a boy from an apartment in that building had been hospitalized with carbon monoxide poisoning.
Firefighters arrived expecting to find a furnace malfunction or other typical cause of carbon monoxide, but instead found a fire in a display case inside a first-floor beauty parlor. The business was closed at the time and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
