PERU, Maine — Firefighters are used to getting calls on house fires. But when it’s their own home, that’s another story.
Peru Fire Chief William Hussey was returning from a wedding when he received a text message of a fire that broke out at his address Saturday night.
Fortunately, Hussey found that the fire was at an outbuilding at a camp next to his house, which doesn’t have an address; which is why neighbors used Hussey’s instead.
“It’s quite shocking to see your address to come up … Now I know how other people feel,” Hussey said.
The neighbors managed to put out the fire with a garden hose before firefighters arrived, reported the Associated Press.
Officials believe that a small grass fire had reignited and spread to the outbuilding, about 50 feet from Hussey’s house.
