Off-duty volunteer firefighters save 2 from fire

The SC firefighters were heading home when they spotted the fire, and helped 2 escape

SOUTH LEBANON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Two firefighters on their way home saved the life of two people when they spotted a house fire Friday night.

One of the residents, Galen Boyd, was asleep when the fire began. He said the off-duty firefighters were there even before crew arrived.

“If it wouldn’t have been for them, we’d have had a time getting out,” Boyd told Local 21 News.

Firefighters Hunter Umbenhaur and Tyler Zimmerman helped break into another part of the home where a woman was living.

“We had five minutes to get out, and if we hadn’t been out in five minutes, we’d have suffocated,” Boyd said.

Umbenhaur and Zimmerman were transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion.
