NARRAGANSETT, R.I. — It’s a historic day for the Narragansett Fire Department, which is set to swear in its first female firefighter.
Warwick native Aubrie Blanchette will be sworn in Tuesday to the 34-member department after working on probationary status for a year, following her graduation from an 18-week fire training academy.
The 26-year-old Blanchette also acquired an emergency medical technician license and has helped revive patients who had stopped breathing.
Blanchette told The Providence Journal that she’s had an exciting year on the job.
She said she got the idea to work as a firefighter from two friends’ boyfriends, who applied for firefighter jobs years ago. She also served as a volunteer firefighter in Foster.
