NORWALK, Conn. — Firefighters went above and beyond the call of duty when they returned to the home of a family who recently lost a family member.
Norwalk firefighters visited the widow and three children of Belarmino Lima, who died after a truck collapsed on him Sept. 16., reported The Hour. Firefighters who responded to the incident returned to the home Wednesday, and delivered stuffed animals and gift cards to Yosely Lopez and her children.
“The holidays are always tough,” firefighter George Baez said. “We wanted to give her gift cards so she can get something for the kids.”
The special visit was orchestrated by Mindy Garcia, an eligibility manager at a community health center, where Yosely is a client.
“Mindy learned about [Lopez’s] husbands tragic death and that since his death, the family’s income has been severely impacted,” Betty Cordellos, a director at the community center, said.
Garcia reached out to her firefighter nephew, Baez, who responded to the medical call for Lima.
“She’s reached out to us before and I said, ‘Let me see what I can do to help.’” Baez said.
Lopez tearfully expressed her gratitude for the gifts. “God bless everybody.”
