ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, N.J. — When a couple got married last week, they had the most unexpected wedding crashers: firefighters.

Newlyweds Allison Russoniello and Kevin Duffy were celebrating their wedding last Friday when they were told the building had to be evacuated due to a strange burning smell. It was later discovered the smell was from a faulty refrigerator compressor.

The couple and their guests were being escorted out as Stafford Township and Surf City firefighters began filing in. At that moment, the newlywed couple decided to embrace the situation.

“I turned to Kevin and said, ‘This stinks, but we’re going on the fire truck,’” Russoniello told USA Today. The couple’s photographer, Drew Noel, turned the incident into a photo shoot, snapping frames of the couple inside and outside the fire truck.

Once the building was cleared, Noel had the fire crew pose for a photo with Russoniello. “They picked her up above their heads and I jumped onto a chair and grabbed a couple shots and it just so happens they turned out perfect,” Noel said.

The following Monday, Russoniello called the department to thank them for their help.

“I said, ‘You protected people, you served people. I can’t be mad at you for evacuating the best night of my life. I have to laugh about it!’”
