BAGERSVILLE, Ind. – They say firefighters are never truly off duty and that was true for Bagersville Battalion Chief David Porter who was enjoying the sun and sand in St. Petersburg, Florida when he jumped into action.

WTHR reports that Porter was at the hotel pool when a commotion broke out. A woman was found at the bottom of a 9-and-a-half-foot pool. She wasn’t breathing and she had no pulse.

Porter jumped into action with the help of another off-duty firefighter from Tampa. Together, they administered three rounds of CPR and got her pulse back. She was also breathing again and talking to the medics by the time she was taken to a local hospital.

“I think the stars just aligned for the lady. The good Lord was looking out for her, so had we not been there, I don’t know what would have happened, but fortunately we were,” Porter told WTHR.
